Ganciclovir is a broad-spectrum antiviral primarily used to treat Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections, particularly in HIV/AIDS patients and organ transplant recipients. It prevents viral replication by targeting CMV DNA polymerase.

Ganciclovir 250 mg & 500 mg: Used for CMV infections, including CMV retinitis & pneumonitis in immunocompromised patients.
More potent than Aciclovir against CMV and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV).

Indications:

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in immunocompromised patients

  • Myelosuppression (bone marrow suppression): Can cause anemia, leukopenia, and neutropenia.

    Not safe in pregnancy: Teratogenic and carcinogenic—strict contraception required.
    Neurological effects: May cause seizures, confusion, and dizziness.
